川

静岡県掛川市の中心部から八甲山という山の方へ向かっていくと、原泉と呼ばれる、地図上では存在しない、澄んだ川が流れる自然豊かな地域がある。

原泉は、大和田・孕丹（ようたん）・萩間・居尻・泉という地域を総称した名前で、地域住民に親しまれており、人口減少が進む地域にしては、とても美しい景観を保っている。

私は3年の滞在を経て、原泉にある大きな美しい川が、地域の人々にとても愛されており、しかし、毎年訪れる台風や大雨による洪水の災害により、その愛情が恐怖へ変貌することに、摂理がいかに通った場所であり、家が流されたにも関わらず、居続けるほどの執着さに、驚かされていた。

私は使われなくなったお茶工場の中に、川を描いた。そして住民に、描かれた川の上に乗って、言葉を流してもらった。また台風が訪れて、私が描いた川と流した言葉は、割れた窓から来る雨水と風で、滲んで破壊されていく。きっと死ぬまで、もしくは破壊し尽くすまで、川は美しさを保ったまま、人と共存していくのだろう思うと、温もりと絶望が渦巻くような奇妙な美しさが、その土地に感じられた。

From the center of Kakegawa City in Shizuoka Prefecture, heading toward a mountain called Hakkōzan, there is a nature-rich area known as Harazumi, where a clear river flows—an area that does not appear on maps.

Harazumi is a collective name for the districts of Ōwada, Yōtan, Hagima, Ijiri, and Izumi. It is a name familiar to local residents, and despite ongoing population decline, the area has preserved a remarkably beautiful landscape.

During my three years of living there, I came to see how deeply the large, beautiful river in Harazumi is loved by the local people. At the same time, I was struck by how that affection transforms into fear each year due to flooding disasters caused by typhoons and heavy rains. It is a place where natural order is keenly felt, and I was astonished by the strength of people’s attachment—so strong that they continue to live there even after their homes have been swept away.

Inside an abandoned tea factory, I painted the river. I then invited residents to step onto the painted river and let their words flow across it. When a typhoon came, the river I had drawn and the words that had been released were blurred and destroyed by rainwater and wind entering through broken windows. Thinking that the river will continue to coexist with people, retaining its beauty until death or until everything is completely destroyed, I sensed a strange beauty in that land—one in which warmth and despair swirl together.

レジデンスプログラム概要：

原泉アートプロジェクトとは、静岡県掛川市北部に位置する中山間地域、原泉地区を舞台に、国際的なアーティスト・イン・レジデンスを主軸としたアートを実践する団体です。

グローバルな活動を通じて地域内外に多角的な交流を生み出し、地域・人・自然が渾然一体となって持続可能な新しいコミュニティのあり方を模索しながらその実現を目指します。

有機的で柔軟性のある団体の強みを活かしながら、国内外の大小さまざまな組織とつながり、アートを通して学びを深め、互いに成長できる場を創り上げたいと考えています。

私にとって初めてのアーティスト・イン・レジデンスです。2018年から2020年にかけて正式に参加しました。

ディレクターの羽鳥祐子氏は、常に作家と深い部分（プロジェクトの根底）での繋がりを希望し、参加していない年でも、何らかのかたちで自然と繋がることに意味を見出しているような気がしています。私は様々な経験を経たのち、すべてのアーティスト・イン・レジデンスの大事な部分は、その繋がりにあるのではないかと、感じています。

原泉アートプロジェクトには、様々な国からアーティストが参加しており、多様な国の価値観や文化に触れることができました。

そして、世界情勢や災害によって自分の道が左右されることの重みを、このレジデンスを通してより実感することができました。

戦争は本当に起こること、災害は身近な人を突如として殺すこと、場所をなくすこと、友人や家族と会うことができなくなること、政治によって横断が叶わなくなること。

原泉アートプロジェクトのレジデンスは、自然豊かで安らぎのある場所であると同時に、様々な影響が身近で、直撃しやすい場所です。一見ではそうは見えないし感じないと思います。しかし、その時はいつもやってきました。

その揺らぎが自身の土台を強くしていきます。

This was my first artist-in-residence experience. I officially participated from 2018 to 2020.

The director, Yuko Hatori, consistently seeks deep connections with artists—connections that reach the core of each project. Even in years when one is not formally participating, she seems to value staying connected in some natural form. Through various experiences, I have come to feel that this kind of connection is one of the most essential aspects of any artist-in-residence program.

Artists from many different countries have participated in the Haraizumi Art Project, allowing me to encounter diverse values and cultures from around the world.

Through this residency, I also came to more strongly realize how profoundly one’s path can be shaped by global events and disasters.

That war truly happens.

That disasters can suddenly take the lives of people close to us, take away places to live, prevent us from seeing friends and family, and make crossing borders impossible due to political circumstances.

The Haraizumi Art Project residency is both a place of rich nature and calm, and at the same time a place where such influences are close at hand and can strike directly. At first glance, it may not seem or feel that way. But those moments always come.

That sense of instability ultimately strengthens my foundation.
